Hastings United - 2002-2003 Season
The summer of 2002 saw a change of name and colour as
Hastings Town were renamed Hastings United and changed
their colours to claret and blue, taking on the identity
of the club who'd folded in 1985. A fine run of form saw
United reach the first round of the FA Cup where they'd
lose to Stevenage Borough 1-0. However, dismal form
following the cup run saw United finish third from bottom,
only scoring 44 goals (the joint second lowest in the league)
and relegated back into the Southern Division of the
Southern League.
Dave Kings performances in goal earned him Player of the
Season award, with Danny Simmonds (also top goal scorer)
runner up. Duncan McArthur once again won goal of the season,
with a typical Macca-esque screamer against Newport County.
